Photo shows the new submarine V-3 going down the ways at the Portsmouth Navy Yard after having been christened. The undersea craft is the largest type submarine built in America. Work on the submarine was started in 1921. The ship is 341 feet 6 inches long, with a breadth of 27 feet and a surface displacement of 2167 tons. The V-3 is expected to do 21 knots an hour on the surface, and to average 9 knots an hour under the surface. There are 6 torpedo tubes. A 5 inch gun and 2 Lewis machine guns composing the armament of this formidable submarine which is to be manned by a crew of 7 officers and 80 men.
